There are hundreds of reasons to start a business, but at some point in time a direction is needed to guide the company's future. Unless you are in the unique position as the only producer of your product or service, part of the decision is in whether you'll be a leader or a follower. That also means accepting all the risks that follow when making that choice. It isn't easy to see when that happened in Yashica's history, but it became clear that is was their choice after the early years. Being pioneers and innovators may not have been easy, but it was the foundation they built for their company and reputation.
"Necessity is the mother of invention", or so the proverb goes. You see a problem and then you see a new way to solve it. To add one more family dimmension, curiousity must be the father of invention, but sometimes that approach takes more guts than some are willing to pay. Many manufacturers prefer to play it safe and address the obvious needs of the day without continually reaching into new territory. Yashica Co., LTD. wasn't afraid of persuing "world's first" advancements, and found the rest of the industry quietly following their lead. It was done without much fanfare or massive ad campaigns to show their products off, or to reign supperior over the competition with the latest and greatest release. They just did the work and put it into the marketplace for others to follow their lead. Unfortunately their run was a short one, and ended all too soon - but - it was a great and impressive run while it lasted.
